The Byers Lab is dedicated to advancing our understanding of mental health in later life, aiming to improve the lives of older adults through innovative research and evidence-based insights. Led by Dr. Byers, our team investigates the onset, progression, and outcomes of mental health disorders, neuropsychiatric conditions, and suicide risk in older adults.
Our research focuses on:
- Identifying predictors and outcomes of mental health and neuropsychiatric conditions
- Understanding the risk factors and prevention strategies for suicide in older adults
- Analyzing large-scale datasets to uncover insights into late-life mental health care needs
With funding from leading agencies such as NIH (i.e., NIMH, NIA, and NIMHD), the Department of Defense, and the VA, the Byers Lab has developed a robust, clinically relevant understanding of mental health in aging.
